Minister:
Rev. Nick Judson

We are not alone,
We live in God’s World.

We are called to be the Church:

To celebrate God’s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, To proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, Our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us.

We are not alone.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16

The original Richmond Mission was constituted by action of the Methodist Conference in New Westminster on May 9, 1888.

Services were first held on the North Arm of the Fraser where Ocean Cement is now located. The congregation soon moved to the Richmond Municipal Hall then situated at #17 River Road and #20 Cambie Road. The original church building was opened in 1891 during the ministry of Rev.J.Wood.

As part of the Richmond Circuit of the BC Conference of the Methodist Church, this congregation was involved with the original Eburne Church, Steveston Church, and the Steveston Japanese Methodist Mission. In 1923 we joined up with East Richmond United Church, a community church serving the eastern part of Richmond. In 1926 several members of our congregation formed a new congregation at Brighouse and we continued to work with Brighouse in the Richmond Brighouse Pastoral Charge until 1958.

During the ministry of Rev. Rupert Evans, a new congregation was formed at Gilmore Park through the tireless efforts of Mrs. Evans.

In 1958 we joined Sea-Island as a two point Pastoral Charge and then welcomed several of their members into our congregation when that church closed in 1970.

In 1961 our congregation sold the original building and the parsonage to the Municipality of Richmond and moved into a new church building at 8711 Cambie Road, the present site. The Richmond Municipality moved the original church building to Minoru Park in 1967 and rededicated it as a nondenominational church serving the community for weddings and baptisms. The original church building is now known as Minoru Chapel.

The congregation of the Richmond United Church moved into the 21st century and in 2012 the church reaffirmed its name as the Richmond United Church. As we celebrate our s[splendid heritage and the 133rd birthday of our church this year, we pay tribute to our founding pioneers and past congregations, and to some of our members who are from the original congregation, and are still active in the affairs of the church those existence spans three centuries, birthing two other churches within this period of her history.

Today, Richmond United Church remains a close knit family church where members care for and support each other in their journey with God while extending a warm welcome to visitors and fellow seekers alike. The Richmond United congregation has opened its doors to allow other groups an opportunity to serve the community through the use of its church building. Among these groups is the Chinese United Church congregation, the JIL (Jesus is Lord) congregation, and a daycare and preschool program.
